It’s folklore story telling time! These items celebrate the unique folklore of Trinidad and Tobago, which is shared with Louisiana, Haiti, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
The Soucouyant, Papa Bois, Mama Dlo (sometimes called Mama Glo), the Ligahoo, Duennes, and La Diablesse—these are the folklore characters populating the imagination of Caribbean children.
These specific renderings of the folklore pantheon come from Paria Publishing’s bestselling book “Folklore & Legends of Trinidad and Tobago” by Gérard A. Besson, and are pictures that three generations of Trinidadians and Tobagonians have grown up with.
Don’t forget to say “Cric-Crac!” to ward off evil spirits before and after talking about them!
