What is a Gingerbread House™?

Gingerbread Houses™ are the legacy of the 19^th century cocoa boom in Trinidad and Tobago, when they became fashionable in the expanding suburbs of Port of Spain, San Fernando and Arima. They were gaily-painted wooden houses with detailed fretwork, ranging from small wooden cottages to sophisticated town houses with jalousies and verandahs embowered in trees and flowers.
