The Great Estates of Trinidad™ are a series of superb drawings of the country’s splendid 19th century estate houses.
Gaston de Gannes de la Chancellerie, born in 1838, developed a large cocoa estate just south of the village of Arima. In the 1860s he married Miss Sophie Cipriani and “took his young bride up the Caroni by corial”.
He built La Chance on some 50 acres on the O’Meara Road.
